Subscriber is getting disconnected Dial-up settings Make sure that ‘Disconnect if idle’ and/or ‘Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed’ is unchecked; If you are using Outlook, make sure that ‘Hang up after sending and receiving’(Outlook Express) or ‘Hang up when finished with a manual send/receive’ (Outlook) is unchecked
The modem does not work The modem is incompatible/The modem is not connected properly or it’s turned off Make sure that your modem is supported by the operating system used; Verify that the modem is connected properly to the correct port on your computer. If the modem is external, verify that the power is on.
Unable to connect to ISP ISP’s server not running/Wrong number dialed/Faulty modem cabling/Telephone line does not accommodate the modem speed Verify that the phone number dialed is correct; Do not use the 9-25-pin converters that are included with most house hardware because some of them do not carry modem signals. To be safe, you should use a converter made especially for this purpose; Select a lower bits-per-second (bps) rate
When trying to connect, a message is received that says the ISP server is not responding There’s a lot of static in the phone line, which prevents a modem from connecting at a higher bps rate. Adjust the speed of your modem to a lower bits-per-second (bps) rate
